Smooth Jazz America (SJA) launched onto the airwaves of cyberspace July 12, 2008, broadcasting to the world from Washington, DC. SJA was created by Jay Lang, former host of “Lights Out Washington” on Smooth Jazz 105.9. When the station changed its format on February 29, 2008, the idea of SJA came to life to create a radio station unafraid to deliver an authentic Smooth Jazz format on a higher level minus the many pop hits that just didn’t seem to fit the flow. Smooth Jazz America plays today’s Smooth Jazz hits including many of the true Jazz Greats and CD cuts the tight terrestrial radio playlist would never allow. Instead of following Kenny G with The Emotions, Al Green or Foreigner, SJA follows Kenny G with a Brian Culbertson, Nancy Wilson, Diana Krall or Ronnie Laws. SJA dares to venture beyond traditional boundaries & restrictive research to deliver great music to the world via an internet platform.
